Industry: Crunch Fitness Leaps Into Market

Crunch Fitness, which is opening its first Inland gym in Upland, cuts amenities like swimming pools and basketball courts in favor of an extensive class selection and a focus on personal training, according to a local franchisee.

Crunch Fitness, a New York-based chain of gyms with about 35 locations nationwide, is jumping into two Inland cities as part of an expansion in the Southern California market.

Membership sales already have begun for a club in Upland that is under construction and scheduled to open in March or April. A Riverside location will follow later in spring, and others could be on the way, said Curtis Harman, operating partner.
