The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry is targeting an increase in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) via the franchise industry through the launch of the National Franchise Development Master Plan.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the target is to reach 4.3 per cent of GDP in 2016 from 2.2 per cent in 2010. With the plan, the target GDP for year 2020 is 9.4 per cent when the country is expected to be a regional franchise hub.
“The National Franchise Development Master Plan was developed by the ministry as a platform to generate the franchising industry to be more dynamic and progressive,” he said.
